The rapid urbanization of the world's population (e.g. 75% of the European Union – EU population lives in the cities) causes significant economic, social, and environmental problems, with a negative impact on people’s living conditions and their quality of life. Smart cities could be the answer to many of these problems. Their main objectives are to improve public services and make best use of public resources by using digital technologies. The talk will provide an introduction to the smart cities paradigm, blockchain technologies and its potential of enabling smart cities.
